Yuba City will soon be welcoming two more hotels – a good sign of confidence in the community, officials say.

Springhill Suites – a brand operated by Marriott International – will be moving in on Woodward Street, the southwest corner of Highways 99 and 20 near Sperbeck’s Landscaping, said Yuba City’s economic growth official Darin Gale. The developer, Simon Gill of Yuba City, owns a number of Subways in the region. They have received approval from the Planning Commission and are awaiting the finalization of

building plans, Gale said, which could be any day.

“I know they want to break ground as quickly as possible,” Gale said.

Once plans are submitted, it usually takes a couple months to process and review before the city can provide the developer with a building permit. Gale was unsure how long hotel construction typically takes, though he guessed around the one-year mark.

The Springhill Suites will involve about 100 rooms, will include a convention space, and take up more than 50,000 square feet.

A Holiday Inn Express will be settling on a plot at Bridge and Shasta streets.

The parcel known as the Feather River Mill site sat vacant for more than a decade before it was purchased by a Fresno-based company last summer.
