‘I consider myself lucky being a part of the Yuba-sutter community’

Occupation: Full-time business administra­tion student at Yuba College.

What’s your walk-up intro music? I love classical and folk music.

Hobbies, interests: The thing which interested me the most is social service and community service. I also like to spend time with the kids. Hence, I always volunteer in my daughter’s school and at our community temple and teach kids over there.

What brought you to the Yuba-sutter area? I was born and brought up in India and I came to the U.S. after I got married seven years ago. While I was doing my bachelors in India, I got married and I had to leave my studies. After a year, my daughter came into my life. in order to give her good upbringing, I sacrificed my career and didn’t continue with my studies further. I started going to Yuba Community College in 2016 and I got a lot of support from the college. The teachers have been so helpful and it encouraged me and made me more passionate towards my goals.

What do you like about the Yuba-sutter area? I consider myself lucky being a part of the Yuba-sutter community. I love the beauty of this rural area as well as its diversity. The surroundin­g Buttes just enhance bloom and the beauty of the town. It is a very peaceful area to live and you find people from many cultures and background­s here. I like to communicat­e with the people of the other communitie­s and love to know about their Jyotsna Puri, 27, of Yuba City is a Yuba College student was born and brought up in India and came to the U.S. later in life.

Dream vacation: My dream vacation is to go to an unknown place where nobody knows me and I can spend my days without any worries. I want to go for a tour of Europe.

What would you do with a million dollars? I would definitely save some for myself and my family. The rest of the money I would like to spend on social service. I want to open a training center for the kids and people who become victims of domestic violence and human traffickin­g or the kids whose families leave them on the road. At that place, I want to train them how to become self-sufficient, create their own identity and become successful.

Favorite memory to share: Like every women, my favorite memory is when I gave birth to my daughter. When I held her in my

arms, that day it made me realize I would have to be special for her. I want her to proudly say to everyone one day that I, her mother, is her role model.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? Since my childhood I always wanted to be an accountant because it was my father’s dream. Due to some family problems, he couldn’t fulfill his dream. I decided to be a successful business person, so he could see his dreams getting fulfilled through me.

Favorite places in the area: My favorite places in the areas are Sutter Buttes hills and the lakes of Marysville. Whenever I feel overwhelme­d from the problems of my life, I just go to the lake and feel relaxed.

Dream job: My dream job is to become a successful business person. My dream is to encourage our younger generation.

What do you like about yourself? The thing I like in myself is, I believe in

hard work, learning and persistenc­e. These are the main three keywords of my life, which encourage me to fight with all the difficulti­es of my life.

What/where is your heaven on earth? For me, the heaven is on the earth is my parents, who not just giving birth to us but also sacrificed their dreams and desires, just to fulfill our dreams.

Favorite book: My favorite book is “Wings of Fire” – an autobiogra­phy of APJ Abdul Kalam.

What movie stops you while flipping through the TV channels? I like the traditiona­l movies and the movies which give us some good lessons. Also, I like to watch comedy movies and shows.

What do you like about yourself? The thing I like in myself is, I believe in hard work, learning and persistenc­e.
