HOTELS: ‘There’s a demand here’

The Mehmet Noyan Co., which has local roots, worked with the city on the parcel for the last seven years, and has plans to build the hotel, according to Appeal-democrat archives.

GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

The hotel will sit on 1.5 acres of the 7.5-acres parcel, and will include around 93 rooms. Gale said the developer is finalizing the sale, which will hopefully close by June.

The city has gone through the process and finalized the remediatio­n action plan, and within 90 days of closing the purchase, the developer will begin remediatio­n of the site, Gale said.

Sutter County Board of Supervisor­s will host its regular session meeting at 3 p.m. Hall of the next step is the building permit process. The last hotel to be built in Yuba City was the Hampton Inn on Sunsweet Boulevard, which started constructi­on in 2006, according to Gale.

He said officials have gotten feedback from business travelers that many times Yuba City rooms are sold out and they have to stay in Colusa or Natomas.

“The developmen­t of a hotel is many millions of dollars... that’s a huge investment into the community,” Gale said. “All these developers have done analysis of our region and understand there’s a demand here for rooms.”
