TRESTLE: Kinder Morgan shut down, drained pipe
the weekend and Monday repairing the issues.
“As a precaution, we put two environmental contractors on site to mitigate any potential concerns regarding the pipeline attached to the bridge,” Jacobs said. “There are no leaks so far.”
Russ Brown, public information officer with Yuba County, said a quick response by all involved help minimize the impact.
“When it came down to it, the pipe was sagging but nothing was compromised,” Brown said. “There are booms in the water down below just in case, but nothing leaked.”
Brown said the county Office of Emergency Services and other county and city officials met with Union Pacific and Kinder Morgan staffers to sort out the problem and solution.
“On Friday about 8 p.m., Curt Aikens, with the Yuba County Water Agency, shut down releases from New Bullards Bar Reservoir to lower the water level of the Yuba River so crews could work,” Brown said. Crews repair a damaged railroad trestle on Monday over the Yuba River in Yuba County.
Melissa Ruiz, with Kinder Morgan, said they shut down the pipeline that’s attached to the trestle so repairs could be completed.
“As a precautionary
measure, Kinder Morgan shut down and drained the portion of the pipeline that runs from Rocklin to Chico while the Union Pacific railroad crew performs maintenance activities
on the bridge,” Ruiz said in an email. “Kinder Morgan employees have been on site continuously in order to monitor all activity around the pipeline.
“Once Union Pacific has stabilized the bridge, Kinder Morgan will follow its restart plans after a thorough safety inspection and pressure testing of the line.”
