Indians drop first game of the season

Three walks and an untimely error led to a four-run first inning that the Marysville High baseball team was unable to crawl back from and gave the team its first loss of the year against Dixon, 5-0.

The pitching duo of Morgun Goss and Canyon Williams struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits, but it was seven total walks that did in the exceptiona­l pitching performanc­e.

Marysville’s bats were quieted to two hits, as Devon Conway and Pryce Bramer each had singles.

Marysville (7-1, 4-1) and Dixon will conclude its Golden Empire League series this week, with games on Wednesday at Dixon and Friday at Marysville. Manteca 4, River Valley 3, 8 innings

Folsom 11, River Valley 2 In Folsom – The Falcons were in contention late in both games at the Vista del Lago tournament, but could not come away with a victory.

Fernando Vasquez pitched a solid seven innings with five strikeouts and one earned run in the Falcons’ loss to Manteca in the first game.

Nicholas Tejada was 1 for 3 with a double and a RBI, Justin Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with a RBI and Josh Lee finished 1 for 3 with a RBI.

In the second game, the Falcons trailed Folsom only 3-2 in the seventh inning, but pitching ran out and the Bulldogs unleashed a torrent of runs.

Tejada led the team with a 2-for-4 performanc­e, while Lee was 1 for 2 with two RBI.

River Valley (3-9, 2-4) returns to the field at the Rio Americano Tournament against River City at 9:30 a.m. today.

Natomas 12, Lindhurst 4 In Natomas – Too many walks and too many errors were the driving factor in keeping the Blazers winless on the season.

Andrew Rodriguez pitched 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and only allowed two hits.

At the plate, Miranda Abraham had two hits and a stolen base, Casey Acosta had two hits and a run scored and Daniel Yanez had two hits and two RBI.

Lindhurst (0-6, 0-4) plays at home against Natomas on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS River Valley 7, Lindhurst 2 The Blazers’ Thai Thao and Pheng Thao won 6-4, 6-4 and Steven Demesa and Jaiden Yang won 6-2, 6-1 for the team’s only wins against River Valley in a non-league match.

Lindhurst is 7-2 overall and 5-0 in league. River Valley did not report any statistics.

Sutter 8, Live Oak 1 In Sutter – Alejandro Acosta managed to get the Lions’ sole match win 7-5 and 6-1.

Sutter’s singles winners were: Spencer Leff, Theo Baravos, Justin Navarro, Preston Hastings and Hayden Flanery.

In doubles, Navarro and Hastings won, Bravos and Flanery won and Leff and Will Hines were victors. Live Oak (1-3, 1-2) host Colusa Wednesday. Sutter did not report any statistics.

JV SOFTBALL Oak Ridge 9, Sutter 1

Sutter 8, Del Campo 4 In Roseville – The Huskies advanced to the silver bracket after splitting a pair of games at the Stephanie Ledoux Tournament in Roseville.

Isabel Gilbea and Sydney Harper had the team’s only hits in the opening game loss.

In the second game against Del Campo, the bats came alive.

Katlyn Parker was 3 for 3 with two RBI, Harper had a home run and three RBI, Gilbea also had a home run, Meadow Popete was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBI and Caeley Jackson was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

Sutter (1-5) will return to the field today at 9:45 a.m. and again at 1:15 p.m.

Youth wrestling Yuba-sutter Combat wrestling club competed at the the State of California Wrestling Alliance for the Youth championsh­ips this weekend. Here are the results:

9-10 year old division Chevy Rosales, 70 pounds, 4 wins and 2 losses, fourth place. Ivan Tibbet, 80 lbs, 2-3, sixth place. Matthew Mccaw, 80 lbs, 5-1, third place.

11-12 year old division Hunter Ludwig, 86 lbs, 2-2. Keenan Parkhurst, 76 lbs, 3-2. Alec Flores, 140 lbs, 1-2.

Middle school division Jaxson Taber, 112 lbs, 3-1, second place. D’angelo Acosta, 118 lbs, 4-2, fourth place Manny Medrano, 112 lbs, 4-2, fifth place. Arjun Singh Nagra, 114 lbs, 3-3, eighth place.
