Officials hope to open Sycamore Ranch on Friday

-

Hogs and Hulas. Brown said the county has also worked out an agreement with the Tsi-akim Maidu to have a tribal facility there and to hold ceremonies.

“It’s becoming more and more of a destination place for folks,” Brown said.

Kopping said the county is implementing a volunteer application program for Sycamore Ranch.

“Instead of having care takers, we would like to find the travelers who can make a two to six month commitment to stay at the campground and serve as a host,” Kopping said. “Volunteer hosts would be required to do things like greet visitors, point them to their sites, perform site checks, stuff like that.”

The position would be unpaid. However, hosts would be able to bring their trailer and camp at no cost. Kopping said the position would likely only require about 3-hour workdays (or about 20 hours a week), depending on what is needed.

Anyone interested in the position can read the job description and apply online by going the county’s Community Development and Services Agency website (www.co.yuba. ca.us/departments/ Community%20development/). For more information, send an email to publicworks@co.yuba.ca.us.

Currently, Sycamore Ranch operates on a firstcome, first-served basis. That has resulted in past issues for campers traveling from outside the area who have driven to the campground only to be turned away due to no available space.

Kopping said the county is in the process of implementing a new online reservation system that will eliminate that problem.

“We are looking at hopefully having the website go live by the first of May,” he said.

The county partnered with a company that specializes in online reservations and booking.

There aren’t many details as to what the website will look like or how residents will go about accessing it, but Kopping said more information will be posted on the Community Development and Services Agency webpage when it becomes available.
