Lindhurst baseball earns 1st win

Lindhurst High’s baseball team broke through for its first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, scoring early and often en route to an easy 15-5 Golden Empire League victory over Natomas in Olivehurst.

Samuel Alfred hit a three-run double and Toby Pena finished with two hits, a double and an RBI to lead the way offensivel­y for the Blazers in a game that was called after five innings of play due to the 10-run rule.

Casey Acosta and Anthony Rodriguez both added RBI singles as well in the victory.

Gabriel Rosas earned the win on the mound, striking out five and allowing six hits while going all five innings. Four of the runs he allowed were earned.

The Blazers (1-6, 1-4 GEL) will look to win the three-game series on Friday when they travel to Sacramento to face Natomas again.

Marysville 5, Dixon 1 In Dixon – The Indians avenged their first loss of the season by beating the previously unbeaten Rams to even their GEL series.

Dominic Crabtree finished 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIS, Pryce Bramer had two hits, an RBI and scored twice, and Seth Pyse knocked in a run for Marysville, which lost to Dixon 5-0 in the series opener on Monday.

Freshman Devon Conway earned the win by striking out four and allowing one earned run on seven hits over 51/3 innings. John Flores came on in relief and recorded the save, striking out two over 12/3 hitless innings.

The Indians (8-1, 5-1) will look to win the series when the two teams meet for the rubber match on Friday in Marysville.

East Nicolaus 10, Live Oak 0, 5 inn. In Live Oak – Mitch Barker went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in a pair of runs, and Jaykob Butler hit a two-run double to help power the Spartans to a nonleague win over the Lions.

Gavin Mcauliff and Caleb Born added two hits and an RBI each, and Adin Starr struck out four over and allowed two hits over three innings of work to earn the win for East Nicolaus (4-3), which hosts Live Oak today in Trowbridge.

In Colusa – Raymond Frias and Blake Steidlmaye­r both went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Redhawks to a victory over the Titans in a nonleague contest.

Leo Guzman chipped in with a triple, and Ben Davies and Cole Simmons combined on the hill to pitch a one-hit shutout. Davies struck out five and allowed just one hit over three innings to notch the win, and Simmons struck out four over the final two innings to close the door.

Colusa (10-5, 1-0) returns to Sacramento Valley League play on Friday at Willows.

Lincoln 3, River Valley 1 In Folsom – The Falcons closed out the College Baseball Match Classic with a 1-3 record after a close loss to the Fighting Zebras at Folsom High.

River Valley led 1-0 before two errors allowed Lincoln to score all three of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ayden Gould pitched well in a losing effort, allowing just one earned run and striking out six over six innings of work.

Niko Tejada went 1 for 3 with a steal and an RBI, and Jalen Dulai was 1 for 3 with a steal and a run scored to provide the offense for the Falcons (4-10, 2-4), who will take a week off before returning to Tri-county Conference play on April 9 at Rio Linda.

SOFTBALL Marysville 9, Gridley 5 In Marysville – The Indians pounded out 14 hits to build a 9-0 lead after five innings and coasted home from there for a nonleague victory over the Bulldogs at Abby Field.

Hannah Clavelle finished the day 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, and Madison Powell was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIS to lead the way for Marysville at the plate. Josie Rapp added a two-run double, and Raina Hudson and Veda Smith both went 2 for 4 with a double.

Rapp also earned the win in the circle, striking out 13 and allowing six hits in a complete-game effort.

The Indians (5-2, 1-0) will take next week off for spring break before returning to GEL play on April 9 at home against Dixon.

Pioneer 1, Yuba City 0 In Yuba City – The Honkers received another strong pitching performanc­e from Blake Craft, but were held hitless in a tightlycon­tested Tri-county Conference loss to the Patriots at home.

Craft, who threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Rio Linda on Tuesday, struck out 19 and allowed only three hits against Pioneer to take the loss. The only run of the game came on a solo home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning and that proved to be the difference.

The Honkers (8-3, 2-1) will look to bounce back today when they travel to play River City.

The Honkers’ junior varsity team remained perfect on the year with a 9-2 victory over the Patriots. Monica Mitchell went a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple and a double, Sydnee Chappell finished 3 for 4 with a triple and a double, and Grace Lee was 3 for 4 with a triple to lead the way for Yuba City (10-0, 3-0).

Maggie Penning and Bethany Baca both doubled and went 2 for 4, and Penning struck out five and allowed five hits over seven innings to earn the win.

BOYS TENNIS Lindhurst 5, Marysville 4 In Marysville – The Blazers remained perfect in GEL play after slipping past the Indians in a battle for first place.

Katheng Richard Her picked up a 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 win in boys singles, and the teams of Peter Thao and Thai Thao (7-5, 6-3), and Andrew Vang and Vichias Yang (6-1, 6-4) earned wins in boys doubles. Rounding out the winners for for Lindhurst were girls doubles team of Daisha Lor and Annie Yang (6-0, 6-2), and the mixed doubles duo of Steven Demesa and Kathy Vang (6-1, 6-1).

Amanda Yang (6-2, 7-6) and Leticia Staples (6-3, 6-2) won in girls singles, and Nick Vang (6-1, 6-0) won in boys singles for Marysville. Angelie Xiong and Andrea Vang also teamed up for a 6-2, 6-4 victory in girls doubles for the Indians.

The Blazers (8-2, 6-0) will continue GEL play on April 10 at Natomas, while Marysville (3-2, 3-2) won’t play until April 11 against Capital Christian.

Colusa 6, Live Oak 3 In Live Oak – The Redhawks swept all three doubles matches to beat the Lions by a score of 6-3 in Butte View League play for the second day in a row.

Alex Martinez (6-2, 6-1), Ian Hunter (6-1, 6-2) and Danziqu Suarez (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) each won singles matches for Live Oak. The Lions (1-5, 1-4) will host Sutter today.

BOYS GOLF River Valley 202, Yuba City 263 In Linda – Trey Davis shot a 37 and Riley Bell finished with a round of 38 as the Falcons cruised past the Honkers at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club for their 84th straight TCC win dating back to the first tournament of the 2014 season.

Andrew Davidson and Guramrit Ghoman both recorded 40s, Christian Pineda carded a 44 and Cole Norton had a 45 to help River Valley stay unbeaten on the year. The Falcons (8-0, 6-0) will next compete at the conference tournament on April 9 at Yolo Fliers in Woodland.

JV SOFTBALL Wheatland 11, Sutter 8 In Wheatland – Makinna Yoshikawa struck out four to earn the win in the circle and recorded two hits and scored four times at the plate to lead the Pirates past the Huskies in their BVL opener. Brenna Brady added a double for Wheatland (6-1, 1-0). I just went by what positions their coaches wrote down, but this year, I’m making sure the kids play the positions they excel at.”

The South snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 36-30 victory in last year’s game at Harrison Stadium in Oroville. Despite the win, the North still holds a commanding 24-15-1 lead in a series that dates back to 1978.

The South will begin practice on Monday, June 11, at Chico High and stay at the dorms at Chico State in the week leading up to the annual game.

Admission to the game is $10 with proceeds going to the Lake Mccumber Children’s Diabetic Camp.

The game will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the 8-man contest at 5 p.m. The 8-man all-star game began play in 2012.
