A couple of decades later, as a Yuba City police officer, he lost his life.
Williams’ sacrifice for the Yuba City community in 1962 was honored again Friday morning during the rededication ceremony at the intersection of Williams Way and Gray Avenue.
His grandsons, Glenn and David, who live out of
my grandson’s first time taking part in this,” Ouzts said. “We love to celebrate Good Friday.”
The group took turns carrying the cross and singing hymns of praise from Plumas Street near Colusa Avenue to Yuba City Town Square.
On the last leg of the trek, Ouzts carried his 8-month-old grandson, Grayson, in one arm while he shouldered the cross.
Marysville resident Wayne Wilcoxen, with the House of Prayer Church, said he took over the event about 12 years ago. Bob Ouzts, pastor of The Bride Church in Yuba City, carries his grandson, Grayson, during a Good Friday cross-carrying event along Plumas Street in Yuba City.
People of all faiths were welcome.
“It’s been going on here for more than 20 years,” Wilcoxen
said. “We want to let people know that we’re standing up for Jesus because he died for all of us.”
