Officers kill man after he leads chase, shoots canine

Five candidates running for positions in Yuba County have reported receiving contributions so far in 2018, all of which are running in contested races.
Not all candidates have filed financial reports this year, but all will be required to do so by April 26 – the first hard deadline for candidates’ financial statements.
For the assessor’s race, candidates Steve Duckels and Steve Souza have reported contributions. Duckels reported receiving a contribution of $1,000 on Mach 20 from retired Yuba City resident William Woods. Souza filed a report on March 23 stating he and his wife, Pamela, gave his race a loan worth $5,000.
As for notable expenses, Duckels reported giving $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity for civic donations and $1,437 to Sapphire Group for campaign consultations toward the end of 2017, according to a Feb. 15 filing.
In the last couple of months in 2017, Souza reported spending $3,347 total to Smart Marketing for campaign manager payments and $1,205 to Landslide Communications for mailers, according to a Jan. 31 filing.
Candidate Ernie Thompson didn’t report any contributions in 2018. He did report paying Daley Professional Web Solutions $663 for a logo design and website creation toward the end of 2017, according to a Jan. 22 filing.
The only candidate in the sheriff/coroner’s race to file a report so far this year is Wendell Anderson. He reported last Friday that he received a contribution of $4,000 from Roy Lanza, owner of Hust Bros Auto and Truck.
As for notable expenses, Anderson reported spending $3,775 for campaign consultant Smart Marketing in the last several months of 2017, according to a filing on Jan. 26.
