Giants-dodgers game postponed due to rain

- By Kerry Crowley San Jose Mercury News (TNS)

San Francisco Giants Friday night’s game between the Giants and the Dodgers was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for April 28. It marked the Giants’ 33rd rainout since moving west in 1958 and the first at AT&T Park since 2006.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants were hoping a breakout day for the team’s offense on Wednesday would carry over into a weekend series at home against the Dodgers.

They’ll have to wait at least one more day to swing the bats again.

The Giants announced Friday evening’s contest against the Dodgers has been postponed to April 28, as heavy rain forced the teams to change their plans. With rain potentially impacting today’s game, San Francisco also announced it would push back the scheduled start time of that matchup to 3:05 p.m.

The April 28 makeup is part of a split doubleheader, as the teams will start the postponed game at 1:05 before playing again at 7:05. The Giants and Dodgers have a mutual off day on April 26, but that day will remain open on the calendar as the teams will pack four games into three days.

Friday’s rainout is the first at AT&T Park since the Giants postponed games against the Houston Astros on April 11 and April 12 in 2006. Back then, the Astros were still in the National League.

It is the Giants’ 33rd rainout in San Francisco since moving west in 1958.
