Meridian Elementary School

There will be a meeting for those interested in participat­ing in the planning of the 50-year anniversar­y of Meridian Elementary School on Tuesday April 10 at 3 p.m. at the school located at 15898 Central Street, Meridian. Please contact Superinten­dent/principal Javier Lopez at 530-696-2604 for details.

The celebratio­n will take place April 20.

Franklin Elementary School

School resumes tomorrow, April 9. We hope everyone had a great break.

On Monday, the 9th, our eighth-grade students will begin their Smarter Balanced Assessment System testing. It is the California Department of Education testing that provides a more even testing field for all students than those previously in place.

On Thursday, we will have a First, Second and Third grade assembly to recognize students who have demonstrat­ed good citizenshi­p and those who have made notable academic progress.

Tierra School

School resumes tomorrow, April 9.

Wednesday, the 11th is our next minimum day for grades one through eight. Kindergart­en students will have their typical day. Teachers and staff will use this time to evaluate student progress, plan curriculum and prepare materials.

The Tierra Buena Wrestling Team placed fifth at the District Tournament held on March 30 at Yuba City High School.

Twin Rivers Charter School

We welcome back students and staff as school resumes on Monday the 9th.

California Assessment of Student Performanc­e and Progress (CAASPP) Testing will begin April 16, for grades three through eight.

There were three special games held at the Yuba City Duplicate Club in March. All of these games give the bridge winners extra points. On March 12, there was a local charity game with money going to Casa de Esperanza the Bridge Club’s charity of choice.

On March 19, there was a nationwide ACBL Senior Game. This event is played by players all over the United States with all playing the same hands.

In addition there is a printout out after the game describing the optimum way to play the hands. On March 22, there was a Unit Championsh­ip with players from Chico joining. There were two regular games on March 5 and March 26. Game dates and winners were: March 5 - 1st - Johnnie Houser & Pat Pommerenck: 2nd - Tom Frye & Joanne Murdock: 3rd - Don Johnson & Rich Shipley

March 22 - 1st - Mark Bloom (Chico) & Carol Huston (Chico): 2nd - Alan Ludwig & Tom Frye: 3rd - Steve Kaessner (Chico) & Danniel O’broclyn: 4th - Johnnie Houser & Billie Quandt (Chico).

March 26 - 1st - Pat Pommerenck & Lola Sisson: 2nd - Mary Mayfield & Ramon Lopez: 3rd - Rich Shipley & Jerry Fishell.
