Hobbies, Interests: Watching my granddaughter, Shelby, barrel-racing and training her horses. Playing card games with family and friends. Kayaking around the lake, where our cabin is located. Visiting friends. I also enjoy working in my yard.
What brought you to the Yuba-sutter area? My husband and I came here in 1968, when we were hired for teaching positions (he grew up here).
What do you like about the Yuba-sutter area? The diversity of the landscape and the people.
Dream vacation: Visiting my cousin in New Zealand.
What is the closest you’ve been to a famous person:
A few feet away from Pope Benedict when he was in his Popemobile at the Vatican . ... a few feet away Stephen Hawking at an event.
What would you do with a million dollars? Pay off my house, give some to my children and grandchildren, donate to a number of nonprofits. Babs Cotter, 75, of Yuba City loves the diversity of the Yuba-sutter area’s landscape, as well as its people. When Cotter was a child, she wanted to be a teacher.
Favorite memory to share: While teenagers, a friend and I scuba dove under the lake from our dock to his, coming up with long strands of grass hanging off us – talk about the creatures from the deep lagoon.
What did you want to be as a kid? A teacher.
Favorite places in the area: The Sutter County Museum, the Sutter Buttes, El Zarape.
Dream job: I think I have it. Volunteering on the board for the Sutter County Museum, volunteer on
the desk and for special projects at the museum. Volunteer on the board for Sutter Buttes Regional Land Trust. Volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Volunteer at April Lane School, where I also work testing second-language students AND anywhere else I can help out.

Pet peeve: Drivers who don’t signal before turning.
What do you like about yourself? I’m friendly and outgoing.
What/where is your heaven on earth? At the family cabin in the mountains.

What movie stops you while flipping through the channels? I don’t watch TV.
Favorite musical group: I really like Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, Elton John... all of whom I’ve seen, or will see, at concerts.
