Raiden Toche, 14, Yuba City, wrote about his mother, Sherry Toche: “There is no possible way to thank the woman that has given me so much; but I’ll start with a toast. To my coach off the field and personal chauffeur to games or practice every single day. Cheers to my biggest fan, I’m yours too.”

Raiden Toche’s older sister suggested he surprise their mother with a poem on Mother’s Day.

“I’m in Arizona in college and I saw the poem contest and told him to check it out and submit a poem because I thought it would be something nice he could do for her,” said Isabella Toche, 19. “I helped him edit it and submit it but it was all him.”

The freshman at University of Arizona said it was a good chance to do something for Mother’s Day in her absence.

“It was something cute he could do since I won’t be there and I usually help him so we can both do something for Mother’s Day,” she said. “It was a way to thank my mom for all the she does and now that I’m away, it’s just my mom and dad (Sylvester) who are there for him and cheering him on at all the games.”

It’s been 13 years since you last graced our fair city with your tenacious presence. Indomitable, you continued to shop the grocery store specials despite having lost 1/5th of your height to osteoporosis. You are a giant in my eyes who let the lord comfort and lead her. June Ramsay

My mother Maria passed way in 2007; mom made home cooked meals daily, disciplined when needed and we had a routine. Taught us work ethics and chores. Mom took us to the park, special outings and always made sure we received a gift on holidays.

Mom… Is a survivor of cancer and horrific car accident involving a drunk driver. She cooks for the homeless and drives cancer patients to their treatments. She is selfless and never complains about the pain she is in. She is a beautiful person inside and out. She is determined.

A single working Mother back in the Fifties, unusual back then. She was smart, funny, so full of life even in the face of life’s tragedies and traumas. The three Musketeers, she and Karen and I. We miss you and love you so much, Momma. Sharen Cornils and Karen Cartoscelli

The hour is near, the birth is long

At last I’m free, my mother I see Enchanting prayer of love. She brings forth my life Struggle and strife Generations, they form within me
