Marysville Appeal-Democrat

‘People know each other and care about each other here’

- By Chris Kaufman ckaufman@appealdemocrat.com

Name: Liz Sanchez. Age: 30. Family: My parents are Roz and Rick Bliss, both retired teachers, and my husband is Nick Sanchez of Sanchez Insurance Services in Yuba City.

Residence: Marysville, though soon we’ll be moving out to Hallwood.

Occupation: Fourth- and fifth-grade teacher with Marysville Joint Unified School District.

Hobbies, interests: I like to walk on the levee, go to Giants’ games, as well as paint and draw.

What do you think of the current weather? I wish it would stay this nice in the summer. Maybe without the wind though.

What brought you to the Yuba-sutter area? I was born here. Then I came back after college.

What do you like about the Yuba-sutter area? I really love the small town atmosphere. People know each other and care about each other here, and you don’t find that in big cities. I like being close to family and I especially like all the local produce available in the summer.

Where would you like to live for a year? Probably London. My husband and I traveled there a few years ago and I completely fell in love with it. Either that or Hawaii. Can’t beat a year of beach time.

Where do you travel to often? Most often we travel either to Fort Bragg or San Francisco for Giants’ games.

What is the closest you’ve been to a famous person? I haven’t been that close, but my mom has seen Elton John’s yacht.

What would you do with a million dollars? Probably travel to Japan and add Liz Sanchez, 30, of Marysville likes to walk on the levee, go to San Francisco for Giants’ games and would probably travel to Japan if she won a million dollars.

the rest to our housebuilding budget.

Favorite memory to share: Probably my wedding day. It was kind of a blur, but it was so fun and exciting and I was so happy. It was the best day of my life.

Who do you admire? My parents. My dad is a walking encyclopedia. Ever since I was little I could ask him anything and he always knew the answer.

As for my mom, if you had her in class, she might have fooled you into thinking she’s mean, but those who really know her know what a big heart she has. I hope I’m as kind and generous as she is when I’m a mom.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? I wanted to be a famous actress and live in Hollywood and make tons of money. Until

I took a drama class in high school and realized I actually really disliked acting. So much for that.

Favorite places in the area: Basically any Mexican food place. Nowhere on Earth has better Mexican food than Casa Lupe and El Rey.

I also love my school. It’s a cute, peaceful country school in a wonderful community and has amazing kids.

Pet peeve: Texting and driving. It’s so dangerous and I feel like I see people doing it all the time.

What do you like about yourself? I like that I’m old enough now to know what I’ll tolerate and what I won’t. I also know what matters to me and what doesn’t. I have a lot less internal stress because of that. I know who I am.

What/where is your heaven on earth? Fort Bragg. I love

AND

the beach, and it’s a lovely small town with delicious pizza and ice cream. And it’s beautiful, especially at sunset. That’s why I made a huge painting of it that’s hanging in my living room. So I can see it every day.

What makes you smile? Seeing a student understand a concept for the first time and then gaining the confidence that goes with that. And my dog and cat. They’re ridiculous.

What movie stops you while flipping through the TV channels? Any Harry Potter movie.

Favorite television show as a kid: “Pokémon” and probably “The Power Rangers.”

Who should play you in a movie? I would love to be played by Tina Fey. She’s so funny and down to earth. Main number .................... Steve Miller ...................... Andrew Cummins .............
