YC Preview Day aims to help college hopefuls

The first step toward a higher education can be difficult. Potential students are confronted with a range of applicatio­ns to fill out, financial records to collect and an assortment of tasks to complete before even stepping into a classroom.

In an effort to make that first step a little less daunting, Saturday’s Yuba College Preview Day is a chance for those interested in attending to speak with financial aid staff, teachers and counselors about their educationa­l future.

Amandeep Kandola, director of counseling at Yuba College, said the upcoming event was intentiona­lly planned for a Saturday, so those busy with work and most in need of initial guidance can attend.

“This is an opportunit­y to provide a one-stop shop for those considerin­g going back to school and get ready for summer and fall classes,” Kandola said. “This is also an opportunit­y for our community to check out what is offered at Yuba College. We know that when our community is involved to support our students, everyone is successful.”

Kandola said the event will also be a way to inform attendees about the newly released Yuba College Promise, which offers paid tuition for new, full-time Yuba College students for up to two semesters.

The Yuba College Promise specifical­ly targets the 30 percent of the population who report incomes above the financial aid threshold and who are new, full-time students (12 units plus) at the college, said Yuba College President G.H. Javaharipo­ur in a past interview.

For high school students considerin­g concurrent enrollment, Saturday will be the first day they can officially sign up for classes, Kandola said. For those interested in the benefits and challenges concurrent

Attendees can expect to participat­e in family games, have the opportunit­y to win raffles prizes and enjoy a free BBQ.
