Three teams remain in major softball TOC
District 2 Little League’s major softball Tournament of Champions is down to the final three teams after a pair of games on Tuesday night at Peach Bowl Little League in Yuba City.
In winner’s bracket play, the Olivehurstlinda Legends punched their ticket to the championship round after picking up a 5-1 victory over the South Sutter Spartans in a battle between two unbeaten teams.
Danni Farris turned in a dominant game in the circle by striking out 13 batters while tossing a one-hitter, and Morgan Heggstrom led the way at the plate for Olivehurst-linda by going 2 for 3 with a double and a triple.
Rylee Gillespie went 1 for 2 with an RBI, Kendall Harris singled and scored a run, and Tiana Hernandez singled as well for O-L, which moved to 4-0 in the tournament with the win.
Meika Lauppe scored the lone run and struck out five batters in a complete-game effort for South Sutter. Joceyln Becerra also make two great catches in left field, one of which she turned into a double play.
Sutter Buttes 10, Sutter Area 0 Natalie Buzzini struck out five while tossing a no-hitter, and Emma Wolfgram went 2 for 3 with three RBIS and a run scored to lead the Sutter Buttes Riptide to an eliminationgame victory over the Sutter Area Storm in Tuesday night’s late game.
Buzzini also helped herself out at the plate by hitting a single and driving in two runs, Avery Arnold went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, and Lizi Onstott added an RBI and scored twice for Sutter Buttes, which will face South Sutter on Saturday for the right to face Olivehurst-linda for the championship.
MAJOR BASEBALL Peach Bowl 3, Middletown 1 Cole Barrie dominated the action on the mound by recording 14 strikeouts while firing a no-hitter, and the Peach Bowl Cardinals kept their season alive with a victory over the Middletown Cobb Angels in an elimination game on Tuesday night at Sutter Buttes Little League in Yuba City.
Grant Fletcher finished 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, Marcial Calzadilla singled and Jaxon Counts scored a run to help the cause for Peach Bowl, which finished the game with four hits
Olivehurst-linda 16, Wheatland 1 Aidon Hinojosa went 2 for 3 with a triple, four RBIS and two runs scored to help power the Olivehurst-linda A’s to a victory over the Wheatland Blue in Tuesday night’s other elimination game.
Aaron Wolford added a 2-for-3 showing with a triple, RBI and two runs scored, and Saul Ruiz had an RBI single and scored three times to help the cause for O-L at the plate.
Ruiz also struck out 10 over 32/3 hitless innings before Wolford got the final out to complete a one-hitter.
Ireland Sohrakoff recorded the lone hit for Wheatland.
