Dispensary permit up for grabs in Marysville

Applicatio­n process refined by council

Marysville has room for one more medical marijuana dispensary to move in, and City Council members made the applicatio­n process much less time consuming at their latest meeting.

City officials awarded two medical marijuana dispensari­es in 2017. One of the recipients – River City Phoenix – is close to opening up shop, likely sometime this fall. The other – Marysville Cannabis Company – was denied its renewal license earlier this year due to the company providing “misleading and false informatio­n” on the renewal request, according to officials.

That means one more medical marijuana dispensary permit is up for grabs.

At their June 5 meeting, council members revised the applicatio­n process for interested companies. When the dispensary permits were first awarded, interested parties had to go through a four-phase process – costing $10,473.

Council members essentiall­y streamline­d the process to make it only one phase. Now, interested parties will only have to pay an initial applicatio­n fee totaling $10,000.

“We passed a change to our fee schedule at our last council meeting. Now, staff are working on the details regarding how the process for people to apply for the permit is going to play out and how (the permit) will be allocated,” said Mayor Ricky Samayoa.
