“The poor will be with us always, says the Bible. But about 30 local high school students put a twist on that adage recently, traveling all the way to Mexico to be with them.

The 30 students, including 25 from Yuba City High School and five from Colusa County, went with 14 adults and five students from the Tahoe area to live a week in the Frica Emiliano Zapata suburb of Tecate, a city of 30,000.

Members of the Christian organization ‘Young Life,’ they built small houses for two impoverished Mexican families and repaired several other buildings.”
