On May 31, Nutrition Services took over Linda Elementary School for the day. They call it an all-day field trip without the bus ride! Twenty-one Nutrition Services staff members joined with twenty-four Community Partners to bring students a fun-filled day of nutrition, health, fitness, and wellness education. Twenty-eight vendor stations filled the classrooms and extended out onto the field. Some of the educational stations included: taste testing nutritious foods, food safety, physical safety, soil and crop health, mindfulness, nutrition related games and activities, and much more. Lunch is also very special on this day, students are treated to an A-Z salad bar and encouraged to try at least one item that they may have never even knew existed. The salad bar includes a fruit, vegetable, or grain from every letter of the alphabet, including : Dragon fruit, Quinoa salad, Nopales salsa, and Watermelon radishes.

Students followed a pre-assigned itinerary and visited six or seven vendor stations throughout the school day before returning to their own classroom to wrap-up the day with a visit from Nutrition Services staff members. After a quick review of the day’s activities, students were reminded why Nutrition Services sponsors this event every year. Nutrition Services does more than just serve breakfast, lunch, and snack every day, Nutrition Services Director, Amber Watson says: “I see our department as an education partner supporting student learning and overall wellness. We believe what our logo says: Nutrition and Learning go Hand-in-hand.”
