Basketball matchup: MPD cops vs. kids

6 p.m.- 8 p.m.

The five-week program starts next Wednesday, June 27, and runs through Aug. 1. Kids under 8 are welcome as well, but are asked to come with a parent chaperone. Parents are also welcome to come watch the escapades.

“Our goal is to interact with kids, give them something to do during summer break,” Detective Sgt. Nelson Magana said. “We want to get them out of the heat and keep them out of trouble, and focused.”

He said kids may be used to seeing police officers while they’re on duty, so this will be a new and casual interaction. He hopes officers can lend an ear and be mentors to Marysville’s youth.

FELONY ARRESTS

Anthony R. Gonzales, 31, of the 600 block of Toddwick Avenue, Marysville, and Christopher R. Brown, 26, of the 5500 block of Alisha Avenue, Olivehurst, were arrested by the Yuba City Police Department at 7:37 p.m. June 18 at Sunsweet on suspicion of criminal conspiracy. Omar D. Velasco, 24, of the 1500 block of Derek Drive, Olivehurst, was arrested by the Yuba City Police Department at 11:54 p.m. June 17 at the intersection of Colusa Avenue and Plumas Street. He was booked into Sutter County Jail.
