District 2 minor softball all-star tourney underway
District 2 Little League’s minor softball all-star tournament got underway over the weekend, and two local teams remain undefeated after the first 10 games at Colusa Little League.
Leading the pack is Peach Bowl’s all-star team, which moved to 3-0 in tournament play with a 15-0 victory over Sutter Area on Sunday night.
Victoria Acosta led the charge in the win by going 2 for 2 with a triple, four RBIS and three runs scored. Ava Cantrell went 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIS and scored once, and Tori Hernandez also doubled drove in two runs and scored once.
Acosta and Hernandez also combined in the circle for seven strikeouts while tossing a one-hit shutout in a contest that lasted only four innings.
Malaina Wilder singled to account for Sutter Area’s lone hit. Olivehurst-linda 3, Westside 2 Ashlynn Wheeler struck out 15 batters and allowed three hits over six innings of work to lift 2-0 Olivehurst-linda past Westside in Sunday’s other winners’ bracket game.
Wheeler also tripled and scored a run, and Amber Smith singled and scored a run as well to provide the offense for O-L, which will take on Peach Bowl today at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship round.
Danica Hagle struck out 14 batters and surrendered only two hits for Westside, while Magali Jauraugi singled and scored a run.
Sutter Buttes 19, Colusa 8 Vanessa Garcia struck out eight and walked 16 while tossing a five-inning no-hitter as Sutter Buttes scored eight runs over its final two trips to the plate to beat host Colusa in an elimination game on Sunday night.
Alexis Otero provided the bulk of the offense for Sutter Buttes by going 3 for 5 with a double, two RBIS and a run scored, while Kenzie Garramore tripled, drove in three runs and scored twice. Garcia helped her own cause by hitting a two-run double and scoring four times, and Haleigh Russell added an RBI double and scored three runs.
Westshore 25, Marysville 21 Taylor O’leary went 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored, but it wasn’t enough for Marysville in a high-scoring loss to Westshore in Sunday’s other elimination game.
April Rapp singled and scored twice, and Lauren Russell singled and scored once for Marysville, which lost despite drawing 24 walks in the six-inning game.
Peach Bowl 19, Kelseyville 1 Taylor Wills went 2 for 2 with a double, four RBIS and two runs scored, and Chloe Gonzalez was 1 for 2 with three RBIS and also scored twice to lift Peach Bowl past Kelseyville on Saturday night.
