Fire Protection District receives $5K from YCWA

-

The Dobbins-oregon House Fire Protection District will receive a $5,000 grant from the Yuba County Water Agency to purchase thermal imagers to assist in search-andrescue missions in the foothills.

Agency officials approved the Bill Shaw Rescue Equipment and Training Grant at their meeting on Tuesday.

“Thermal imaging capabilities will be a great addition to our department, allowing our firefighters to better serve and protect our community,” said Mike Lee, Dobbins-oregon House Fire Protection District board chairman, in a press release. “During critical first responder incidents, this technology will be invaluable in locating and rescuing potential victims of structure fires, traffic accidents, and search-and-rescue scenarios.”

The volunteer fire protection district provides emergency first responder and fire services to a large portion of the northeastern part of Yuba County. West Nile virus.

Spraying in the areas around Wheatland, Plumas Lake, Olivehurst, Linda, Marysville, south Yuba City, Live Oak, Sutter and Tierra Buena will typically occur on Thursday evenings. Areas like Meridian and Robbins will be sprayed on Wednesday evenings.

The first application of the season is scheduled for June 28 around sunset and will continue up to 2 ½ hours. The spraying will be performed using pickup trucks with mounted foggers.

In agricultural areas, the district will conduct ground fogging to treat for adult mosquitoes Monday through Thursday evenings starting June 25. Areas west of Yuba City, east of Olivehurst and Plumas Lake, and north of Marysville may be treated using aircraft application, depending on appropriate weather conditions. If that occurs, aircraft applications will be made with a yellow and blue striped Air Tractor or white Cessna Skymaster flying at approximately 300 feet.

The district will be using a combination of insecticides that pose a low risk to human health. Those who want to avoid or minimize exposure should stay indoors, keep their windows closed and turn off window-mounted air conditions, evaporative coolers and whole house fans when spraying is being conducted in the immediate area.

For more information about spray operations, call the district office at 674-5456 ext. 0 during business hours or by viewing the district’s website at www.sutter-yubamvcd. org.
