A Yuba City man has been identified as one of the victims from Thursday morning’s fatal collision on the 10th Street Bridge. The deceased victim and the driver at fault have yet to be officially identified.

Pablo Gutierrez was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the time of the collision. He and a female driver were traveling into Yuba City across the bridge around 1 a.m. Thursday morning when a man drove down the wrong side of the road and collided with their vehicle.

The collision killed the female driver and Gutierrez suffered serious injuries. In a social media post, Gutierrez said the deceased victim was his partner, who reportedly leaves behind two children.

“In an instant, my soulmate, my love was ripped away from me,” Gutierrez said in a social media post. “I walked away from the wreck with serious injuries. But nothing will compare to the pain in my heart.”

The driver at fault in the fatal collision was taken to a hospital. He remains in critical condition as of Friday afternoon, said Detective Sgt. Nelson Magana with the Marysville Police Department. The suspect’s name has still not been released.

It’s unclear what caused the suspect to drive into oncoming traffic.

“At this time, it is still under investigation,” Magana said. “We haven’t ruled out or confirmed whether drugs or alcohol were a factor. We still have to wait for further investigation to find out.”

Gutierrez posted on social media Friday afternoon that he had been discharged from the hospital and was going home.

The Yuba County Coroner could not be reached Friday about the deceased victim’s identity.
