There can be no holding your breath when it comes to the casino business

-

Oh, for crying out loud. A day or two after we reported that the longanticipated Enterprise Rancheria casino in Yuba County might actually get going, again, evidently now looking at partnering for a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, we hear that another appeal has been filed by another tribe that does casino business in the general vicinity.

A report by the website Law360 reported that the Colusa Indian Community has urged the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to rethink its recent ruling backing the U.S. Dept. of Interior’s decision allowing the land acquisition for the Enterprise casino. It’s evidently asking the court to reconsider.

We know that the Enterprise Rancheria casino has a wellstoried past and has its ardent supporters and opponents. And, frankly, we’re not crazy about casino gambling posing as community development. But if it’s legal for one tribe to do, it should be legal for any tribe. Business is business and fair is fair.

We’re trying to find more information on this latest development. But hopefully, it’s resolved quickly.

Enterprise Rancheria owns a 40-acre parcel on Forty Mile Road and had previously reported they hoped to resume grading at the site this month and hoped the casino could be open for business late next year.

No holding your breath on this issue.
