Mid-week event sure to bring plenty of drivers

- By Troy Hennig Marysville Raceway

High-speed auto racing and gigantic aerial fireworks will light up the sky on Tuesday night at Marysville Raceway.

This once-a-year spectacular combines dirt-track racing and a salute to America’s Independence Day.

Four racing divisions will be in attendance, led by the winged 360 sprint cars, IMCA Sport Mods, Super Stocks and Crate Sprints.

Marysville Raceway will play patriotic music over the PA system throughout the night, and following the races, the sky will ignite with a gigantic and patriotic fireworks show that will entertain the crowd.

Marysville’s Jeremy Hawes and Chico’s Kenny Allen are locked in a great championship battle for the sprint car lead. Allen is just six points behind Hawes.

Add in Reno’s Mike Monahan, only nine points back of Hawes, and this three-team race for the championship is as good as it gets.

Two multi-time sprint car champions are scheduled to join the winged sprints on Tuesday night. Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, a 10-time Civil War Champion, and Kyle Hirst, a threetime King of the WEST/NARC champion both have this race on their schedule.

With the mid-week running, expect a few more out-of-town drivers vying for the win.

Crate Sprints will be led by Jeff Macedo, who holds a 14-point edge over Yuba City’s Jaylon Deas. Mike Sayre and Cameron Haney are both within 20-points of Macedo in a fourcar chase for the championship.

Tuesday night will mark the seventh point race of the season for the IMCA Sport Mods. Damian Merritt continues to lead the charge. Jimmy Ford currently sits in second, just eight points back of Merritt.

Howard Law sits in the third spot followed by Andrew Peckham. Mike Merritt rounds out the top five. This competitive division is sure to entertain the expected large crowd on Tuesday night.

The Super Stocks standings are a bit spread out. Chris Warner holds a 48-point edge over secondplace Rod Oliver. Multitime champion James Castleberry sits in third.

Pit gate for the competitors

and crews will open at 3 p.m., and the front grandstand gate for fans will open at 5 p.m. Winged sprint car qualifying will start around 6:30 p.m., with racing to follow.

Adult general admission is $17 into the grandstands. Seniors and juniors are $14 each, and children 11 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Parking is also free. Tickets can be purchased early by visiting www.marysvilleraceway.
