The Yuba-sutter Gold Sox had another slugfest on their hands on Saturday night, but as has been the case for much of the season, their pitching staff just couldn’t keep up. For the fifth straight game, the Gold Sox allowed an opponent to reach double digits, and for the fifth straight game they ended up on the losing end of the stick after a rough 18-11 loss to the Lincoln Potters at Colusa Casino Stadium in Marysville.

Saturday night was the 26th Great West League game of the season for the Gold Sox, who have now allowed 10 runs or more in half of them. Lincoln ended up belting six home runs and scored 14 earned runs in all in Saturday’s win, pushing Yuba-sutter’s leagueworst ERA of 7.83 even higher.

The Potters opened the offensive onslaught by hitting back-to-back-to-back homers in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead, but the Gold Sox struck back quickly by scoring five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take their only lead of the game.

Albert Hsiao hit an RBI double, Brody Clifford and Dominic Diana both walked with the bases loaded, and another two runs scored on an error to put Yuba-sutter up 5-4.

After two errors allowed Lincoln to score four unearned runs in the third inning, the Gold Sox once again responded by scoring three times in the bottom of that frame. One run scored on a passed ball and Clifford smacked a two-run double to tie the game at 8-8 after only three innings of play.

The tie didn’t last very long, however, as Lincoln sent 12 batters to the plate while scoring six more runs in the top of the fourth. The Potters only had four hits in the inning, but one of them was a home run and they walked four times during the rally to break the game wide open.
