Sutter Buttes 9-11 all-stars win District 2 crown

Sutter Buttes Little League’s 9-11 all-star baseball team captured the District 2 championsh­ip by pounding out 14 hits en route to a 14-0 victory over Peach Bowl on Friday night at Live Oak Little League.

Joshua Shackelfor­d led the charge for Sutter Buttes, going 2 for 2 with three RBIS and three runs scored at the plate, and striking out seven while firing a one-hit shutout on the mound in a contest that lasted four innings.

James Herd went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIS and two runs scored, Marcus Meras drove in two runs, and Hayden Hall was 2 for 3 and scored twice. Dane Leblanc also hit an RBI double and scored two runs, and Enrique Correa knocked in a run as well in the victory.

Sutter Buttes finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record while outscoring its opponents by a combined score of 39-8.

Up next for the team is the sectional tournament, which will be held at Sutter Buttes starting on July 14.

Camden Mccauley doubled to account for the lone hit for Peach Bowl, which finished the tourney with a 3-2 record with both losses coming to Sutter Buttes.

MAJOR BASEBALL Peach Bowl 1, Colusa 0 Cole Barrie stole the show on his birthday, striking out 19 of the 23 batters he faced over 72/3 perfect innings and driving in the game-winning in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Peach Bowl to a thrilling walk-off victory over Colusa in a winners’ bracket game at Perry Field in Sutter on Friday night.
