GREAT WEST LEAGUE Gold Sox beat Seals to snap losing skid

- Appeal-democrat

The Yuba-sutter Gold Sox have found the perfect remedy to cure their losing ways in 2018 – just play the San Francisco Seals.

For the third time this season, the Gold Sox put an end to a lengthy losing streak by beating the Seals, the latest coming courtesy of a 10-4 victory on Tuesday night at the College of Alemeda.

Yuba-sutter had a four-game losing streak before beating San Francisco on June 8 and had a six-game losing streak prior to beating the Seals again on June 19. Tuesday’s win also snapped a six-game losing skid and upped the Gold Sox record against San Francisco to 4-1 on the year.

They are a combined 3-20 against the other four teams in the Great West League.

Darrel Doll hit an RBI single to give Yubasutter a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Seals scored the next four runs of the game to go up 4-1. The Gold Sox tied it up in the third behind a solo home run by Brody Clifford and two-run homer by Doll, and went ahead for good on an RBI single by Clifford in the fourth.

Dalton Bishop and Sterling Spurling both had RBIS in the seventh, and Yuba-sutter broke it open with a three-run ninth thanks to two walks and a hit batsman with the bases loaded.

Clifford and Mike Shoenberger both finished with three hits, while Doll, Bishop, Josh Winkler and Elijah Smith added two hits each. Doll also had four RBIS, and Smith had a double and a triple.

Recent Sutter High graduate Zachary Mcdaniel earned the win by striking out three and allowing four hits and two earned runs over four innings. Zach Perkins fanned five and allowed two hits over five scoreless innings of relief to notch the save.

The Gold Sox (7-21) will return to Marysville to host the Seals (8-19) for Game 2 of the series today at 7:05 p.m. at Colusa Casino Stadium.
