Gold Sox fall to Rogues in Medford

Yuba-sutter records only four hits in 14-2 loss

- Appeal-democrat

There was no comeback for the Yuba-sutter Gold Sox this time around.

One night after rallying from a three-run deficit in the seventh inning to pick up a win in extra innings, the Gold Sox couldn’t generate enough offense – or keep their opponent off the scoreboard – in a 14-2 loss to the Medford Rogues on Saturday night at Harry and David Field in Medford, Oregon.

The Rogues scored once in the second inning, and added two runs in both the fourth and the fifth to open up a 6-0 lead to take control of the game early, and went on to even the three-game Great West League series at one win apiece.

The Gold Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Mike Shoenberger walked and eventually scored on a double play as Yuba-sutter manufactured a run without the benefit of a hit.

The score didn’t stay there very long, however, as Medford scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning and tacked on two more in the seventh to break the game open. The Rogues then added three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to make the score 14-1.

Albert Hsiao connected for a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning for the Gold Sox to complete the scoring.

Yuba-sutter finished the game with only four hits, two from Hsiao and a single each from Shoenberger and Sterling Spurling.

The Gold Sox (9-23) will look to win the series when they take on the Rogues (20-16) today in the finale.
