Re: Sanctuary state

SB54. The California Crisis and the Sunshine Patriot. In 1776 Thomas Paine began a series of pamphlets titled “The American Crisis.” He began with the words “These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

Our elected public servants, in our state, counties and cities are just that, servants. They work for us, though many seem to think that we serve at their behest.

Summer is upon us and the time for shrinking is over. Citizens need to engage these servants, whether in public forums or in the local venues and locations. Don’t be mean or outrageous, but do be firm and outspoken.

SB54, the “Sanctuary State” bill, introduced by Kevin de Leon and supported by several corrupt and ignorant judges and many of the same bent in our legislature and local governments, is not only dangerous but ignores the same Constitution that they all took a solemn oath to support and defend. If their word is meaningless, then they are meaningless to us and must be replaced.

Our out of control government in California stands in defiance of our federal government and subsequently, in defiance of our Constitution, the supreme law of the land.

Article 6, Clause 2 of the U. S. Constitution, better know as the Supremacy Clause, reads: “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.”

Immigration policy and laws are the under the purview of our U.S. Congress, therefore “Pursuant” to our Constitution and those laws are “Supreme” to “any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.”

We’ve been told by local public servants that “we’re waiting till more counties and cities sign on to anti-sanctuary resolutions” or that “we want to create a resolution with more teeth in it” or “we’re afraid that the State will deny us monies and Jerry will frown upon us.” All are excuses from people that choose to be in the position in which they reside and yet refuse to take action up until this point.

We here locally, commend Yuba City for its action of signing an anti-sanctuary city resolution. We look forward to Sutter County, Yuba County, the City of Live Oak and the City of Wheatland and all other cities and counties of California to bring to their respective tables anti-sanctuary resolutions; to stand up for their citizens, to honor their oaths and respect the rule of law.
