The 19th annual Peach Festival is just a day away. With vendors expected to sell everything from produce and pies to arts and crafts, and entertainment options for the whole family, there’s no question why the free festival is the biggest event for the city of Marysville every year.

Thousands of local residents and out-oftowners are expected to flood Historic Downtown Marysville for the twoday festival starting Friday evening and running through Saturday night.

Special events like a 5K run/walk and peaches and pancake breakfast are planned as well.

One event organizer, Susan Kimmel, who helps put on the Tasty Treat Challenge, said she cannot wait for the event.

“This will be the 7th annual Tasty Treat Challenge. We just thought it would be really fun to get St. John’s (Episcopal Church) involved in this wonderful local event. All proceeds go to benefit the church to help feed the hungry in Yuba County and fill up the food shelf,” Kimmel said.

Past winners have included peach burgers, a pork dish with peaches and every type of dessert imaginable – peach pies, peach champagne cake and peach ice cream. Kimmel enjoys it all, but she said she’s really hoping for a peach margarita this year.

“I want to encourage home bakers to submit something. It’s fun and low pressure. Just join in on the fun and submit something. We will also have a junior category this year,” Kimmel said. “There are first-, second- and thirdplace prizes, each winner gets a certificate and their name is announced on the main stage.”

All entries must be submitted between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday at St John’s Episcopal Church – 800 D St., Marysville. Entry fees are $5 per item or $10 per item for businesses (multiple entries are permitted).

As for the festival itself, vendors will start lining D Street at 4 p.m. Friday, with activities running until 10 p.m. On Saturday, festivities will run from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
