Beale Air Force Base wants landowner feedback on additional transmission line
Beale Air Force Base is in need of an additional electrical transmission line to improve reliability and add redundancy to its existing system. The Western Area Power Administration has a small list of possible interconnection lines – the latest alternative being added in June – and wants to gather comments from the public at an upcoming open house.
WAPA, one of four federal power marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy, received a request from Beale officials to connect to the federal agency’s Cottonwood-roseville line in Yuba County – located west of the base.
Though there are three alternative routes currently being considered, officials estimate the line will run approximately 6 miles to a substation on the base.
“Initial project scoping in December 2017 and January 2018 included two routing alternatives for the proposed transmission line. As a result of feedback during scoping, and more information obtained regarding natural resources in the area, WAPA and Beale AFB have identified a third alternative to consider. There is still not a preferred alternative,” said Tish Saare, environmental protection specialist for WAPA, in a press release.
Because of the change, additional landowners could be affected by the third alternative route. WAPA is opening a second 45-day public comment period to allow those landowners and others who could potentially be affected to ask questions and provide comments.
The open house will be Monday, Aug. 6, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the University of California Cooperative Extension offices at 142 Garden Highway #A, Yuba City.
