Gold Sox lit up in 20-9 loss to Rogues

Yuba-sutter 51/2 games back of final playoff spot

For the fourth straight day, the Yuba-sutter Gold Sox scored the first run of the game.

Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to come away with a win in any of them. One night after seeing their game in Lincoln postponed indefinitely due to a light malfunction, the Gold Sox simply couldn’t keep up in a 20-9 loss to the Medford Rogues on Friday night at Colusa Casino Stadium in Marysville.

With the loss, the Gold Sox fell 5½ games back in the race for Great West League’s final playoff spot with nine games left to play.

Josh Winkler singled and scored on an RBI groundout by Brody Clifford to give Yuba-sutter a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Medford went ahead for good by sending 11 batters to the plate while scoring seven runs in the top of the third.

The Rogues started their rally with two straight singles – their only two hits of the inning – before four walks, two passed balls and two errors allowed them to score all of their runs with two outs.

Medford then added two more runs thanks to a walk, hit batsman, error and a single in the fourth to up the lead to 9-1. The Gold Sox answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an RBI single by Tanner Harper and a run on a double play.

After the Rogues scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth, Yuba-sutter responded with RBI singles by John Papapietro and Harper to make it a 12-5 game heading into the seventh.

But Medford just wouldn’t be stopped on this night, scoring four runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to up the score to 20-5 and turn the contest a blowout.
