Kiwanis awards scholarshi­ps to local high school seniors

The Kiwanis Club of Yuba City Hope of America Scholarshi­p Awards were presented to high school seniors on April 26, 2018. The students were chosen by their teachers and principals as exemplifyi­ng excellence in scholastic­s, leadership and social awareness.

Jaime Quijas chaired the program with the help of Stu Macdonald, Industrial Technology Instructor at Yuba City High School, and Carol Maccaulley who

presented the winners of the Hope of America Scholarshi­ps. Also given were the Art Nason Industrial Arts Award Scholarshi­p and the Clifford Reasor Industrial Education Award.

The winner’s family members also joined us for lunch.

The winners of the Hope of America Scholarshi­ps were Jacqueline Lamas from Live Oak High School. Jacqueline plans on becoming an ER Physician. Alyssa Tinoco from Yuba City High School looks forward to becoming an Attorney. Tali Rodriguez Delgado from East Nicolaus High School plans on becoming an Architect. Each young lady talked about their future college plans, the challenges they faced in High School and the support they received from family and teachers and Staff.

Mr. Macdonald presented the winner of the Art Nason Industrial Arts Award to Kassandra Nazareno from YCHS, and the Clifford Reasor Industrial Education award to Chase Pettengill from YCHS. Both students noted the support and encouragem­ent they received from Mr. Macdonald, as well as support and sacrifice by their families. Kassandra Plans on becoming a Dental Hygienist while Chase will study to become and Architectu­ral Engineer. Congratula­tions to these impressive students.
