for lifters ages 50-54. He put up a total of 1,179½ pounds to set five California state records, three national records and three world records at the competition.
Marysville’s Taylor Evans, competing in the 18-19, 114-pound division, brought home wins in both the open and junior categories by putting up just over 603 pounds in the three disciplines. She also set three state records, three national records and three world records.
Olivehurst’s Michelle Vandeburgh, competing in the women’s 165-pound open and bench only divisions, took first in both with a lift of 226 pounds in the bench press, more than 347 pounds in the squat and 402 pounds in the deadlift to be named the competition’s best female lifter. She broke three state records in all.
Rounding out the list of local athletes was Live Oak’s Dave Murphy, who competed in the 242-pound, 40-44, classic raw Masters and Open divisions. Murphy took first in both categories while also setting state and national records in the squat with a lift of 551 pounds.
“We’ve got some local people doing great things and making a name for themselves on the international scene,” said Murphy, who serves as the coach of the team. “Anytime you can walk away with 35 records it’s pretty good.”
Up next for the Yuba-sutter Powerlifters, who train at the Training Zone in Marysville, is the International Powerlifting League World Championships in Las Vegas in November.
