for lifters ages 50-54. He put up a total of 1,179½ pounds to set five California state records, three national records and three world records at the competitio­n.

Marysville’s Taylor Evans, competing in the 18-19, 114-pound division, brought home wins in both the open and junior categories by putting up just over 603 pounds in the three discipline­s. She also set three state records, three national records and three world records.

Olivehurst’s Michelle Vandeburgh, competing in the women’s 165-pound open and bench only divisions, took first in both with a lift of 226 pounds in the bench press, more than 347 pounds in the squat and 402 pounds in the deadlift to be named the competitio­n’s best female lifter. She broke three state records in all.

Rounding out the list of local athletes was Live Oak’s Dave Murphy, who competed in the 242-pound, 40-44, classic raw Masters and Open divisions. Murphy took first in both categories while also setting state and national records in the squat with a lift of 551 pounds.

“We’ve got some local people doing great things and making a name for themselves on the internatio­nal scene,” said Murphy, who serves as the coach of the team. “Anytime you can walk away with 35 records it’s pretty good.”

Up next for the Yuba-sutter Powerlifte­rs, who train at the Training Zone in Marysville, is the Internatio­nal Powerlifti­ng League World Championsh­ips in Las Vegas in November.
