Burglar steals $400 in donations for annual Toy Run from Marysville business

Copy City on D Street in Marysville had its window smashed and donations for the Original Yuba-sutter Toy Run stolen on Thursday.

“I can replace my window, but they stole from kids,” Brenda Robbins said. “I just don’t get it. It’s almost becoming the norm.”

The burglary has led to renewed support from the community. Already they’ve had a few friends drop by with donations, and local business Brewer & Sons Constructi­on boarded up the smashed window at no cost.

Andrew J. Pointer, 18, of the 1500 block of Heather Drive, Yuba City, was arrested by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office at 9:03 p.m. Aug. 8 in the 1200 block of Rosemary Lane on suspicion of being a felon in purchasing tear gas. He was booked into Yuba County Jail.

Megan J. Hunter, 44, of the 700 block of Almond Street, Yuba City, was arrested by the Yuba City Police Department at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at her residence on suspicion of threatenin­g to commit great bodily injury. She was booked into Sutter County Jail.

Zachary M. Sims, 18, of the 1600 block of Valley View Drive, Yuba City,

a local tradition for more than 30 years, handing out about $25,000 worth of toys. Hundreds of motorcycle­s start in Colusa with stops in Yuba City, Marysville and Olivehurst. The group collects not only monetary donations, but unwrapped gifts and cans of food to be delivered typically the first week in December, according to Appeal-democrat archives.

“This charity is close to my heart,” Brenda Robbins said.
