Suspects sought in knifepoint carjacking

- Appeal-democrat

Sutter County deputies are searching for suspects who carjacked a black Monte Carlo at knifepoint on Tuesday morning.

At 9:17 a.m. a man parked his 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo along the east shoulder of Elmer Avenue to inspect a dump pile, Undersheriff Jeff Pierce said Wednesday. He shut his car off, but left the keys in the ignition.

A small, green, older, Gmcstyle pickup stopped near his vehicle, and the passenger exited the vehicle. He asked the victim if his car was out of fuel, then jumped into the driver’s seat. The victim attempted to get the man out of the car, but the man pulled out a knife and told the victim he would kill him, Pierce said.

Both the stolen Monte Carlo and the pickup were last seen traveling east on Pease Road from Elmer Avenue. The victim said his car was “running on fumes” and would not make it very far. The area was searched, but the vehicles were not found, Pierce said.

The victim was uninjured and said he did not know the suspect who took the Monte Carlo.

The suspect is between 30 and 35 years old, stands at 6 foot or 6-foot-1, and weighs between 200 and 230 pounds, Pierce said. He has brown, dirty-looking hair, stubble growth on his face and was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, an unknown-color bandana under the hat, blue jeans and a dark-colored sweatshirt. The suspect vehicle is a green, older-model GMC or Chevy pickup with damage to the passengerside door and a shattered windshield.
