River Valley, Yuba City volleyball earn CVC wins

Hylena Perez-tamez found the back of the net three times to propel the Yuba College women’s soccer team to an easy 5-0 victory over visiting Shasta College on Tuesday in Linda.

Perez-tamez scored her first goal in the 10th minute off an assist from Monica Guzman, Estrella Silva added another goal in the 15th minute off an assist from Allison Moreno, and the 49ers scored again on an own goal minutes later to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Lissette Luney assisted Perez-tamez for another goal in the 65th minute, and Pereztamez notched a hat trick by driving home her third goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to complete the scoring.

Chela Gomez finished with five saves, including two big ones in the first half when the match was close, to notch the shutout in goal.

“It was a great team effort,” Yuba coach Rene Villegas said. “We did a nice job of shifting defensivel­y.”

The 49ers (3-1-1) continue their nonconfere­nce slate on Friday at Butte College. HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL River Valley 3, Inderkum 2 In Sacramento – Jaclyn Ruiz recorded 14 kills, 16 digs and a block, and the Falcons held off the Tigers for a five-set victory to stay perfect in Capital Valley Conference play.

River Valley won the first two sets, 25-15, 25-8, before Inderkum took the next two by scores of 25-20 and 25-19. The Falcons then came back to win the fifth by a score of 18-16 to take the match.

Sophia Alley helped the cause with eight kills, two blocks and seven digs, and Sarah Hankins handed out 31 assists to go with three kills, three blocks and seven digs. Alexis Topete made 25 digs and contribute­d a kill, Samme Taylor added 18 digs of her own.
