PREP ROUNDUP Colusa bounces back to top East Nic

Marysville earns 1st win; Wheatland, Sutter, Yuba City, River Valley cruise

After seeing its 17-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday in Woodland, Colusa High’s volleyball team returned to its winning ways on Thursday night by holding off East Nicolaus for a five-set nonleague win on the road in Trowbridge.

Hannah Taylor led the way at the net with 12 kills and eight blocks, Gillian Ayala recorded a match-high 13 kills, Jessica Hickel had 10 kills, and Carly Lay finished with eight kills and seven blocks for the Redhawks, who went on to win by game scores of 24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 15-25 and 15-8.

Annie Lay facilitate­d Colusa’s offense with 36 assists and also contribute­d 14 service points, while Amber Morales finished with 16 digs and Gracie Myers chipped in with 10.

Taylor Roccucci posted 10 kills, three blocks and three digs, and Makenzee Goyet added seven kills, two blocks, eight digs and three aces to pace East Nicolaus. Natalie Butler handed out 21 assists to go with four digs, a block and an ace, and Riley Grigsby made 16 digs in addition to two aces and a kill.

The Redhawks (18-1) will compete at the 16team Battle of the Buttes tournament on Saturday at Sutter, while the Spartans (5-2) will host Golden Sierra on Monday.

Colusa also won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-13. Leila Wininger had seven digs, a kill, an ace and an assist, and Eliza Magana had six digs for East Nicolaus (5-2).

Marysville 3, Las Plumas 0 In Marysville – Zoeitza Zacharopou­los recorded a team-high five kills and Haleigh Washburn chipped in with five more to help the Indians sweep the Thunderbir­ds at Lesta Joubert Gymnasium and earn their first victory of the season.
