Yuba City High’s cross country program hosted its 20th annual invite on Friday at the Feather River Parkway in Yuba City.

The longest continuous local cross country event in the area has flip-flopped between Marysville’s Riverfront Park and Yuba City’s Feather River Parkway over the past several years.

Yuba City’s Michael Buzbee said temperatures in the low 90s slowed some of the performances, however, the newly-minted 5K course brought out some hot local competition.

Sutter’s varsity boys success was reported on Saturday, but they had competition from North Tahoe and Yuba City who placed second and third respectively.

North Tahoe’s top runner was Riley Hacker, who placed third with a time of 18 minutes and eight seconds.

The Honkers were led by Austin Holtz who placed fourth with the same time as Hacker. Osmar Basaldua (ninth, 18:23), Justin Negrete (15th, 19:01), Brennan Johnson (19th, 20:04) and Konna Respicio (20th, 20:13) rounded out Yuba City’s top five.

The Falcons top five runners were Abhayjot Johal (18th, 19:48), Avery Anderson (22nd, 20:37), Harman Sangha (23rd, 20:39), Ryan Jelavich (29th, 21:33) and Yusuf Muhammed (30th, 21:33). River Valley took fourth overall in varsity boys.

Marysville’s Joey Henry placed fifth with a time of 18 minutes and 15 seconds.

Falcons’ Sarah Conine placed second with a time of 22 minutes and 35 seconds behind North Tahoe’s Jillian Ferre 22:08 finish in varsity girls.

Indians’ Amanda Angel finished fifth in 24:35 and Yuba City’s Kylie Wada placed eighth at 26:26.
