Teams to pull a tractor during ‘Pull for a Cure’ in Colusa Oct. 27

One... Two... Three... Pull! Nope, not a tug-o-war. The first “Pull for a Cure” will roll in Colusa Oct. 27 to raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Yuba, Sutter and Colusa.

Matthew Foor, community development manager for the American Cancer Society, West Region, said they were trying to find something that was new and would be fun for the community.

The tractor pull is not like traditional pulls where people operating tractors attempt to pull a large trailer and weight, Foor said. This event will encourage teams of 10 to pull a 50-foot rope attached to a tractor from Valley Truck & Tractor Co. John Deere of Yuba City ... people actually pull the actual tractor.

“What we tried to do is make it as easy as possible,” Foor said. “... It’s not a strongman competition. Basically, average people should be able to pull the tractor.”

There will be prizes for the fastest and slowest pull, and the most team spirit, he said.

The main purpose, along with raising money for a good cause, is to have the community go out and have fun, Foor said.

“We’re doing something wacky and different,” he said. “... We want people to have fun, even though cancer is serious, we want people to have fun and enjoy themselves.”

Foor said there will be food trucks and it’s a family-friendly event. Since this is the first year of the event, they are looking at additional attractions for the future.

“We’re building the airplane as we fly it,” he said. “... We’re literally coming up with things each day.”

He said so far, about four teams have signed up, and he hopes for 10. He said the goal is to raise $5,000.

Anyone who signs a waiver, forms a team and raises money, can be involved in the pull.

In order to join, people need to create a team of 10, register the team online, start fundraising to reach the $500 goal by the day of the event, have the team sign waivers (parents have to sign for minors) and check in between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Oct. 27 at the Colusa Casino. The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.
