New Life Christian wins in four

New Life Christian volleyball came through with a four set win on Thursday night to defeat John Adams. Set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-10.

The match was of the utmost importance for the Crusaders being that if they lost their chances of finishing in first place were gone.

Luckily, after tonight’s win the team is now one game ahead of the squad they beat, John Adams.

“This was by far our best match of the year,” said head coach Ron Strickland. “After losing the first set we didn’t roll over. We got up and answered in the final three sets to take the match.”

New Life was led by Haley Rodgers who had nine kills and Courtney Haruska who had eight.

The Crusaders will look to widen their margin over John Adams as they face Alpha Charter on Tuesday at home.

Willows 3, Pierce 2 In Arbuckle – Fresh off their win over Colusa on Tuesday, the Bears fell short in their bid to force a three way in the Sacramento Valley League as they lost a heartbreak­er to the Honkers at home. The set scores for the match were 20-25, 25-22, 25-27, 26-24, 8-15.

Callie Muniz turned in another strong performanc­e finishing with 18 kills while adding nine digs and two blocks.

Halle Charter added 13 kills and Sierra Murphy distribute­d 30 assists.

In the back row, Betsy Myers made 22 digs while Noemi Martinez pitched in with nine.

Pierce (18-11, 3-4) will finish league play next week on the road against Winters and at home against Live Oak.

River Valley 3, Woodcreek 0 In Woodcreek – Falcons volleyball came away with a sweep on Thursday winning by set scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21.

Jaclyn Ruiz led the team with 14 kills and nine digs. Dishing out all the assists in the match was Sarah Hankins with 23 helpers.

Meanwhile, at the net Mckenzie Van Valkenburg­h recorded three blocks.

Another standout player was Sophia Alley who had 10 kills, three digs and one block.

River Valley (22-2, 11-0) is the first team in the CVC to secure a league championsh­ip.

The Falcons will play in the Stockton classic tournament before their last league match on Tuesday at home against Antelope.
