New Life Christian sweeps at home

Live Oak and Sutter Tennis fall in final match before BVL tournament

In Olivehurst– The Crusaders volleyball team got into action on Tuesday night against Alpha Charter. New Life Christian was able to win in a sweep with set scores of 25-8, 25-9 and 25-4.

“This last home game was well dictated by the seniors,” said head coach Ron Strickland.

Courtney Hruska led the way with 17 service points and eight kills. Followed by fellow seniors, Haley Rodgers with seven kills and Annika Ciro with 16 service points in her last two matches.

The Crusaders (10-3, 8-1) are still tied with John Adams in the standings, but will look to jump ahead in their next match.

They will play in their final match of the season against Leroy Green on Thursday.

Willows 3, Colusa 1

In Willows– The Redhawks saw a chance at the Sacramento Valley League title slip away in Willows as they fell to the Honkers by scores of 16-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18.

Missed serves and errors did in Colusa as they never found a consistent rhythm in the match.

Leading the Redhawk attack was Hannah Taylor and Gillian Ayala who finished with eight kills apiece while Carly Lay recorded seven.

Setter Annie Lay doled out out 24 assists and Amber Morales tallied 20 serving points.

Defensivel­y Abby Huskey had a team-high 15 digs with Taylor made three blocks at the net.

Colusa (34-5, 5-2), now the second place team in the SVL, completes the regular season on Thursday at home against Winters.

Sutter 3, Wheatland 0

In Sutter– The Huskies volleyball team won in three sets at their final home game of the season on Tuesday night. The final set scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 26-24.

Sutter had many players helping along the way. Some of the notable performanc­es came from Hannah Crother with 10 kills and Amber Alexander with 12 digs and two kills.

Other standout players included Jaya Bains with two aces and eight kills. As well as Maddy Kunkle who dished out 27 assists on the night.

Sutter (23-8, 9-0) will now travel to play Gridley on Friday before awaiting to hear about further postseason advancemen­ts.

River Valley 3, Antelope 0

In Yuba City– The Falcons volleyball team swept Antelope with set scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-12.

Leading the way for

River Valley was Sameee Taylor with eight aces and nine kills. Helping Taylor was Belle Bugarin with one ace, eight kills, one block and six digs.

Another notable performanc­e came from team captain Sarah Hankin who recorded four aces, five kills, 22 assists and eight digs.

The Falcons finished the season 12-0 and will now await word on who they fill face in the playoffs.

East Nicolaus 3, Williams 0

In Williams– The Spartans volleyball team won in three sets on Tuesday night by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-14.

East Nicolaus was led to Riley Grigsby with ten digs and two aces. Helping her out was teammate Natalie Butler with six digs, four kills and nine assists. Shaye Wininger also recorded an impressive stat line with two digs, one kill, 12 assists and four aces.

The Spartans (11-13, 5-3) recorded their fifth league win of the season and will now play Hamilton on

Thursday. Girl’s Tennis West Valley 5, Live Oak 4

In Live Oak– The Lions tennis team lost in a heartbreak­er on Tuesday by a final match score of 5-4.

In singles, Live Oak saw wins from Gaby Ramirez (64, 6-1), Erica Valdez (6-1, 6-3) and Roxy Lopez (6-3, 6-4).

In doubles the Lions lost in a three set tie breaker in the final pairing. However the pairing of Valadez and Lopez did record a win (6-4, 6-3).

The Live Oak tennis team will now focus on the BVL Tournament which will kick off on Thursday at Yuba City Racket Club.

Paradise 9, Sutter 1

In Paradise– The Sutter girl’s tennis team lost by a final score of 9-1 on Tuesday as they faced a tough Bobcats team.

Recording the only win for the Huskies was the paring of Hannah Riley and Sarah Short (8-6).

Sutter finished the season

with a final record of 9-4 and will now look forward to the BVL tournament on Thursday at Yuba City Racket Club.

College Soccer Yuba 1, Los Medanos 0

In Pittsburg– The 49ers women’s soccer team lost in a close match on Tuesday by a one goal deficit.

The Mustangs offense was able to convert the only goal of the game when they found the back of the net in the 60th minute.

“Despite the loss, I’d like to give some recognitio­n to our goalie Agraciela Gomez. She made some wonderful saves. It could have easily been three or four to nothing today, but she kept us in it,” said head coach Rene Villegas.

Coach Villegas also wanted to recognie the play of defender Rosie Ortega and midfielder Monica Guzman.

The Yuba College women’s soccer team’s next match will be against Solano at home on Friday.
