Last season was the toughest Kerr has dealt with on the court during his tenure in the Bay Area. He finished with his lowest regular-season win total (58) and worst defensive finish (ninth) since he was hired in 2014.
Kerr’s team struggled for a number of reasons. A preseason trip to China led to fatigue during the onset of the season, while injuries to the team’s core players undercut its consistency. Franchise cornerstones Stephen
Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green missed a combined 66 games during the regular season.
However, Kerr’s fortunes turned in the playoffs, as he captured his third title as coach, sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals.
This season, armed with a new extension, Kerr has said he wants his team to play with joy, especially with the uncertainty that lies ahead.
Final Verdict: Kerr remains one of the best coaches in the league and, despite back ailments in the past, he’s repeatedly said he’s good enough to coach for the long haul. As long as he can coach, the Warriors would love to have him.
