A Marysville family is grateful that no one was hurt after a Tuesday morning fire charred the garage and upstairs rooms of their home.

The Marysville Fire Department was called to the 2300 block of Val Drive with the reports of a house fire and when they arrived, homeowner Terry Holland and neighbors were using garden hoses to douse the blaze.

“It’s just stuff,” said homeowner Samantha Perez-holland. “Our family is OK and our pets are OK.”

Tammy Holland-davis, Terry Holland’s mother, said her son had dropped a child off in the morning and was returning home to get his work truck and noticed something wrong.

“He tried to put it out and the neighbors were helping too,” she said. “Gus the dog got out OK and is staying at the neighbor’s house.”

Marysville Fire Chief Ron Karlen said the fire damaged the garage, at least three upstairs rooms and the attic space, and estimated the damage at about $150,000.

“The homeowner noticed ‘heat waves’ coming from his garage, as he put it,” Karlen said. “The origin of the fire appears to be in the garage, the cause is unknown and it looks to be Firefighters clean up after a house fire on Val Drive Tuesday in Marysville.

accidental in nature.”

He said firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to the living room and kitchen.

“This is October, which is Fire Prevention Month, and it’s always a good idea to check smoke detectors and thankfully, this happened

in the day and not the nighttime,” he said. “Talk to your family and come up with a plan in case there’s a fire. What do you do to escape and where do yo meet after. Yuba City Fire, Linda Fire, Olivehurst Fire and Calfire helped on this fire,” he said.
