Yuba volleyball wins in sweep

Gridley Sutter and Wheatland XC compete in second BVL meet

The 49ers volleyball team won in three sets on Wednesday night with scores of 25-19, 28-26 and 25-20.

Yuba was led by Arrianna Salcido with nine kills and two blocks. Heather Harness also had an impressive stat line with seven kills, six digs and two aces.

Other notable performanc­es included Connar Lopez with five digs and four aces as well as Jasmine Pamma with 21 assists and two kills.

The 49ers (6-10, 5-4) will now travel to Solano on Friday for their next match. HIGH SCHOOL Cross Country The Gridley, Sutter and Wheatland cross country teams competed in the second Butte Valley League meet of the season. Wednesday’s contest was held at the Butte County fairground­s with favorable conditions for all runners.

Wheatland’s CJ Duncan kept his BVL streak alive crossing the finish line of the 3.1-mile course at 16:58. He took first place for the second BVL meet of the season. Bryce Harper of Sutter did his best to out sprint CJ in the final 200 yards, but came in second at 17:02. Rounding out the top five were Bailey Rockholt (Sutter), Angel Garcia (Orland) and Raymond Baldez (Sutter). Sutter won the meet with 19 points followed by Orland with 38 points and Gridley with 79 points.

In the girl’s varsity race, Mia Ashby of Sutter had a productive race finishing 20:08 of the same 3.2-mile course. It was a close second and third place finish between Sutter’s Kaylee Duncan (22:13:39) and Kaylynne Turner (22:13:57). Orland’s Anjanessa Ward took fourth with 23:15 while Dara Schmidt wrapped up the top five with a time of 23:28.
