Traffic and parking tips for annual event

-

Traffic and parking are always issues during the annual Sikh Festival and Parade.

People who want to attend the festival activities but don’t want to deal with the traffic are in luck: there are shuttle services.

Service and parking is ran out of two locations:

River Valley High School and the Yuba College Sutter County Campus. Shuttles are expected to drop off and pick up attendees about every 10-15 minutes to take them to and from the event.

Sutter County Undersheriff Jeff Pierce said their staffing levels for the festival and parade are at maximum.

“The Sikh Temple contracts us for security along with Yuba City Police Department and California Highway Patrol each year,” he said. “They also hire private security as well.”

With an estimated 100,000 attendees, he encouraged people to drive safely and be patient.

“Try to get to the temple early due to traffic congestion,” Pierce said. “Yuba City Police Department is mostly in charge of this event, since most of the parade goes through the city.”

Also: A plethora of vendors gather in a large bazaar area each day. Food and drink, free to all, are available here and there around the Sikh Temple grounds.

Parade Route: The procession starts at the Yuba City Sikh Temple – 2468 Tierra Buena Road. From there, it goes south on Tierra Buena Road to Butte House Road. Then the procession heads east to Civic Center Boulevard, where it turns south, loops around Poole Boulevard and Stabler Lane before traveling back toward the temple on Butte House Road. In total, the route runs a little over four miles.
