Department focuses its efforts in various neighborhoods within the city in an effort to slow drivers down.
For November, increased enforcement will be in the following areas: Clark Avenue; Bunce Road; Market Street; Blevins Road; Plumas Street; Shanghai Bend Road; El Dorado Lane; Washington Avenue; and Lynn Way.
Speeders cited under this program can attend a class which requires active participation in the informative/interactive two-hour session. Students learn about braking distances, vehicle load dynamics, vehicle versus bicycle/pedestrians and collision prevention, according to a department press release. Drivers can choose to attend court or handle the citation traditionally, but the program offers an economical alternative.
Speeding is the primary cause of collisions in Yuba City and in 2016, accounted for 28 percent of injury collisions. For more information on the program, call the department at 822-4795.
A Marysville man died from injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 70 Thursday evening.
Joseph Legnon, 54, was riding his motorcycle north on Highway 70, south of Noble Road, just before 6 p.m. when he crossed the double yellow line for unknown reasons, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.
Legnon collided with a southbound truck driven by 16-year-old Marysville boy.
Legnon was transported to Rideout, where he died. The teenager was uninjured.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor, according to the release.
