East Nicolaus, Marysville, Lindhurst and Colfax compete in SYF championships
Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Marysville featured a lineup of championship youth football games. Teams from East Nicolaus, Lindhurst, Colfax and Marysville were all representing their schools.
In the 8U division, the Lindhurst Blazers squared off with East Nicolaus for what would be a dog fight to the finish. With a strong offensive game, the Blazers came out victorious by a final score of 31-22.
In the 10U division, the Colfax Falcons battled it out with Lindhurst in what would be a tough fight to the end. The Blazers finished on top yet again taking the 10U title by a final score of 19-13.
The 12U division featured some of the best entertainment of the entire afternoon when Marysville and Lindhurst faced off for a game that would need double overtime.
Ed Kendrick, a coach for the 12U Marysville team, talked about what it means to have fun playing football, but also teach kids about the importance of not giving up.
“Life is tough and football teaches these kids that just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you’re always going to come out on top and I think that’s important,” said Kendrick.
After a key stop for the Indians in the first overtime, they were able to capitalize on a touchdown pass in the second overtime. After a game winning interception by the Indian’s defense Marysville clinched the championship by a final score of 20-13. Players and coaches on the Marysville 12U football team drench their head coach with a water cooler in celebration of their 20-13 double overtime win over Lindhurst on Saturday.
