Camp Fire: Moved to take action, help
Crystal and Scott Matter help prep food for a Thanksgiving meal being served to Paradise Police Department employees, volunteers and family on Wednesday.
were in Eubanks’ kitchen at the plaza Wednesday cutting up onions and bread. Scott Matter said he went to school in Chico and also felt a calling to help out.
“We figured it was the right thing to do this time of year, give back,” he said. “It’s good for mankind to do this stuff.”
Eubanks already has plans to head back up to Butte County next week with her Potato Patoto food truck and serve up loaded tater tots. She said it’s important that people understand that fire victims will need support for weeks and even months.
“I really hope the support is ongoing for these people,” she said.
Jim King, owner of Rolling Stone Pizza, spent his Wednesday morning underneath a pop-up tent, out of the rain, smoking 15 turkeys for a feed at Walnut Hall in Sutter County on Wednesday. A group of community members organized the
event within the last few days, with plans to feed evacuees and homeless – whoever shows up in need of food.
King’s Rolling Stone Pizza has a branch of the company called the “Slice of Respect” program that helps mobilize in emergency situations like these with the tagline “our turn to serve you.” He churned out about 900 pizzas at the Carr Fire this summer and this emergency has been no different: he’s been at the base camp in Chico and the fairgrounds in Gridley feeding 6,000 firefighters and evacuees, along with the 4G Foundation, who brought tri-tip.
Through the devastating stories he’s heard from evacuees, King said it’s been uplifting to see so many people come together to help a community.
“Just to see that amount of people power was amazing,” he said. “It just brings a new meaning to (Thanksgiving).” Accounts Receivable ........ Classified Fax ................... adclass@appealdemocrat.com adobits@appealdemocrat.com adlegals@appealdemocrat.com
